About The Blackfalds & Area Historical Society
Linking Past & Present, this is a little bit about our journey.
The Blackfalds & Area Historical Society is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of Blackfalds and the surrounding area. Incorporated in April 2005, the Society has been working diligently to collect, preserve, and showcase the documents, records, photographs, and other artifacts that tell the story of our community.
Since 2017, our office and archives have been located in the Wadey Centre, providing a dedicated space for our growing collection and allowing us to better serve the public. Prior to this, we were grateful to the Blackfalds Public Library for providing us with space for our office and archives starting in 2006.
Our Mission:
The Blackfalds Archives strives to collect and preserve documents, records, photographs, and other items representing the family, social, and organizational history of Blackfalds and the surrounding area. We are committed to storing these valuable records in archival-quality materials and making them available to the public, ensuring they remain a vital resource for understanding Blackfalds' rich cultural heritage.
How You Can Help:
We are always grateful for and actively seek donations to the archives. Do you have old photographs, documents, or other materials related to Blackfalds, its residents, or anything concerning the town and area's development, history, and life? We would love to hear from you!
The Society has a formal acquisition policy in place to ensure proper handling of all donations. A Deed of Gift Agreement is completed with each donor, documenting their name and other pertinent information. All donated materials are meticulously filed and stored using archival-quality storage materials and containers.
Many local families and clubs have entrusted their photo and document collections to the archives, recognizing the importance of proper preservation. Donating these materials ensures their safety from common household risks such as basement flooding, fire, and accidental disposal, while also guaranteeing their accessibility for future generations. Unless otherwise requested, all donated material remains accessible at any time.
